Were you thinking “rest and relaxation”… definitely not in a Kindergarten class! (haha)
The two Rs in this post refer to RESPECT and RESPONSIBILITY. You’re going to be hearing a lot about these two words the rest of the year because we officially launch these two social responsibility topics/goals at our school wide assembly tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. Today we spent a good chunk of our day completing our respect and responsibility posters. We first talked about what the different was between these two words and one student put it very nicely explaining “responsibility is what you should be doing, and respect is how you treat others”. After, we brainstormed what each would sound like and what each would look like and then students completed a sounds like and looks like drawing for each topic. I think our posters turned out great!
First thing this morning, we had a chat about how to use our new smelly markers responsibly. I’m a little skeptical about how long they will actually last. Everyone loves smelly markers! After that, we reviewed the letter ‘j’ and students worked on a page in their phonics book. At the beginning of the year I wasn’t sure how successful students would be completing this phonics workbook I created but I am so glad I stuck with it. Everyone is doing a fantastic job printing their letters, colouring and writing their own sentences!
Today I couldn’t help but start to give out a few dragon paws. The collection box for the paws will be in the office on Monday. When a student receives a paw, they will take it down to the office and put it in a big collection box. Students will randomly receive paws when they are demonstrating responsible or respectful behaviours. I could give out paws non stop all day! I see a lot of green and blue behaviour everyday!
